COMMUNITY FIRST AID  -  after numerous requests from neighbourhood and community groups...

... this course is meeting a new need in our communities.  With the increase in extreme weather events and communities being cut off from help, people want and need to know how to help.  But not everyone wants to commit to a lengthy first aid course.  This short course is a general overview of First Aid, equipping you with the basic knowledge and skills to manage until help arrives, particularly where help may be delayed due to your location, major weather events, etc.

About the course:

We can't cover everything in two hours but we can cover a few basics and we can take the fear out of coping with a medical emergency.   This course covers:

  • First Aid Priorities;

  • CPR (practice with manikins);

  • Use of a community defibrillator in a public setting;

  • Choke-rescue techniques;

  • Recognition and management of key medical conditions (asthma, heart attack, stroke, seizures, diabetes;

  • Accidents:  head injuries, broken bones, burns, bleeding;

  • Specifics relevant to the community, where applicable and on request.

Everyone on the course receives a booklet which includes far more than is covered on the course.  The course is around two hours long.
